Imagineers

What exactly is an Imagineer?
An Imagineer is a person employed by Disney, and who designs and construct Disney theme parks around the world.

What subcategories are there?
Disney Imagineering jobs include engineering, illustration, graphic design, computer sciences, and architecture. Those are just a few, compared to the over 140 specific jobs that Disney Imagineers can have.

Who are some famous Imagineers?

Mary Blair worked for Disney in designing the "It's a Small World" ride that was showcased at the World Fair before it was moved to Disney Land. She also is credited as the color stylist in many Disney films.

Xander Atencio (X) started out as a Disney artist, but became an Imagineer in 1965. He created the script for Adventure Through Inner Space, the Pirates of the Caribbean ride, and the Haunted Mansion. X also wrote the words to the song "Yo Ho (A Pirate's Life for Me)", as well as the theme song for the Haunted Mansion ("Grim Grinning Ghosts (The Screaming Song)").

Michael Eisner
Perhaps the most famous Disney Imagineer and Architect is Michael Eisner.
He was the one that most likely made your stay at Disney World more magical. On his second day working for Walt Disney World, he was shown designs for two of the hotels that would be built at Disney. He was disgusted. Although the hotels were humungous, they were utterly boring, and he intended to change that. Those two hotels are now the Swan Hotel and the Dolphin Hotel, possibly the most interestingly designed hotels at Disney. His unique and ingenious ideas sparked others to think outside the box, and create other Disney hotels that are almost as magical.
